Chesterfield Senior Spireites Over-60s Team
The over-60s now play in the Matlock over-60s league at Cavendish Fields on the last Wednesday of every month and organise friendlies at other times. Unfortunately, the previous league in Nottingham ceased to exist. The team is managed by Terry Ashley with assistance from Rob Church. Match Day 5 Wed 26/8/26
Game 1 Chesterfield Senior Spireites 3 Matlock Arc 0
In humid conditions and a threat of rain, Chesterfield scored with their first attack through Dave Simpson with a shot right in the corner. This settled the side down and a second was added with a clinical finish from Steve Dallison. Chesterfield added a third goal early in the second half through Carl. After this goal Chesterfield played possession football and saw the game out. 3 - 0 sounds a convincing victory but Matlock Arc hit the post twice and debutant keeper Darren Townsend made some good saves to keep Matlock out.
Game 2 Chesterfield Senior Spireites 2 Mansfield Town 0
This was a really tight game with Mansfield pressing quickly leaving little time on the ball for us . There was nothing in this game until Carl scored a worldy right in the top bin from 20 yards out giving the keeper no chance. Shortly after Carl added his second goal with another good clean strike . The second half Chesterfield had the majority of possession and ran the clock down with possession based football until Carl got the ball and just shot from anywhere in search of the hat trick however he never got anything like a shot on target this half.
"Today had banana skins written all over it as we had only just beaten these sides earlier in the season in tight games. Match Day 4 Wed 29/7/26
Game 1 Chesterfield Senior Spireites 3 Buxton 0
This game is best described as the "Dave Simpson Show" Dave scored a Hat Trick and could have added a few more had it not been for the very good Buxton Keeper who pulled off two other great saves. Chesterfield went one nil up; however, the Referee was very strict and awarded a penalty for 4 first half running sanctions albeit the 4th one was very harsh. Buxton hit the penalty wide and the score remained one nil to Chesterfield. Dave Simpson then added a second before half time with a great finish.
Chesterfield had control of the game in the second half and Dave Simpson added his hat trick goal from a tight angle.
Game 2 Chesterfield Senior Spireites 4 Ashbourne Leisure 1
Within the first 2 minutes Chesterfield went one nil up through Dave Simpson. Quickly they added further goals through Steve Dallison, John Quinn and another for Dave Simpson. Just before Half Time Ashbourne pulled one back with a sweet strike into the top corner.
The second half was goalless with Chesterfield having possession of the ball and playing the ball around. However an Ashbourne player got frustrated with not having the ball and persistant fouling and deservedly received a Blue Card. To be fair Ashbourne defended well while a man down and kept the ball very well in their own half but Chesterfield were never in any danger and saw the match out easily.
"We were refereed today by qualified WFA/ FA Officials. It was evident that when we play at Graves Park and Queens Park we are not playing Walking Football to that standard, we clearly all need to slow down. It nearly found us out today as we conceded a penalty for 4 running offences inside the first 9 minutes of the game, then 3 more running offences in the second half. Time for us all to slow down. On a positive note we kept the ball we today and saw both games out well with possession based football." Terry Ashley, Manager
Match Day 3 Wed 24/6/26
Game 1 Chesterfield Senior Spireites 5 Alfreton 0
The matches were playing in a temperature pitch side of 28.5C . Chesterfield started well and were awarded a penalty for encroachment by an Alfreton Defender. This was dispatched by John Q low to the keepers right. Straight afterwards Chesterfield scored two quick goals through Paul S and Dave S.
Nigel G and Shane S came on for D Simpson and J Quinn and with Shane's first possession of the ball he fired the fourth goal into the net. Carl G added a fifth and Chesterfield cruised to a comfortable victory.
Game 2 Chesterfield Senior Spireites 0 Matlock Sports 0
This game was of few chances for either side and the score at half time was 0-0, Manu came closest to scoring for Chesterfield with a shot that shaved the post. The main concern for Chesterfield was that they had accrued 3 sanction running offences and the next one would give a penalty to Matlock in the second half. Terry Ashley (Manager) instructed in no uncertain terms that under no circumstances should our team receive the forth running sanction. That was the priority if we concede we do so but not to a penalty
The second half was a scrappy affair with no side in control and the game played out in the heat to a goalless draw with Chesterfield not getting a fourth Sanction. In fairness neither Chesterfield or Matlock Sport deserved to win and the draw was a more than fair result.
"That is 6 games in and we are undefeated. What I liked today is that we showed discipline in the second half against Matlock in not getting the fourth running call which could have cost us dearly. A note in Despatches for Nigel Green who stepped in at the last minute and played his part well in both games today. Thank you Nigel- today we needed 8 players. " Terry Ashley, Manager
Match Day 2 Wed 20/5/26
Game 1 Chesterfield Senior Spireites 2 Derby County 1
A very tight game of few chances until Steve Dallison snook in between 2 defenders to side foot home. Chesterfield added a second shortly afterwards when Manu blasted home the second from close range having been set up by Carl H/T 2-0
The second half Derby started on the front foot and were on top when they scored with a deflected shot in off the post. Chesterfield regained composure after this and held out for the win with the keeper untroubled to the final whistle
Game 2 Chesterfield Senior Spireites 2 Mansfield Town 1
Game 2 started with an early penalty to Mansfield with Paul penalised for encroachment into the Penalty area. The Mansfield player shot low to the keepers left but the agile keeper Rob C saved the penalty This game was very even and tight until Steve Dallison broke the deadlock with a shot that was initially saved by the keeper but trickled over the goal line H/T 1-0
Mansfield scored to equalise very early in the second half with a long range shot that the keeper should have kept out . Within seconds of the restart Carl had restored the goal advantage with a low shot in the bottom corner. After this Chesterfield had control of the game and held on comfortably for the win by keeping possession of the ball for long periods and frustrating the opposition.
"The guys kept possession well, their heads never dropped once, it is clear they trust each other. That makes it 4 from 4. Furthermore we will have a serious team when we get John Warner back between the sticks" Terry Ashley, Manager

Game 1 Chesterfield Senior Spireites 2 Matlock Arc 0
A very tight game of few chances John Quinn opened the scoring with a well placed right foot shot into the bottom corner. Shortly after Shane added a second intercepting a forward pass and firing low giving the keeper no chance
Game 2 Chesterfield Senior Spireites 1 Alfetonians 0
Chesterfield came up against the Alfetonians keeper Jade who was making save after save from Chesterfield's attackers including a save destined for the top corner from Dave Simpson which somehow she magaged to tip over. The deadlock was broken with 3 minutes to go when Dave Simspson intercepted a forward ball and struck a shot in of the post.
"This is going to be a great league run by Dave Walker, it has a good feel about it. The games are going to be tighter than the Nottingham League and it is essential that we are at it from the first whistle The first goal is massive in this league .A great start today Lets go again next month" Terry Ashley, Manager
Latest Cup Reports
The Senior Spireites qualified for the Semi Finals of the Nottingham Power League by beating Rutland Ospreys on penalties and now faced Matlock Arc in mid-March. If they won, they would play in the Final on the same day.
Chesterfield and Matlock Arc were equally matched in the early exchanges of the match however the more clear cut chances fell to Chesterfield. Dave Walker scored the opening goal on 10 mins with a sharp reaction right foot finish.
In the second half Matlock properly went for the equalizer but Chesterfield defended well and in the final minute Manu scored with a shot that went in off the crossbar.
Final Score: Chesterfield Senior Spireites 2 Matlock Arc 0
The Final of the Cup competition was between the Senior Spireites and Bramcote Reds.
In the Final, Bramcote Reds were always in control of the game and scored two early, well taken goals leaving John Warner, in the Chesterfield goal, no chance of being able to save either of them.
In the second half Bramcote Reds played out the game well, keeping possession and limiting Chesterfield to only minor chances.
Bramcote added a third goal when Chesterfield were attacking and ran out well deserved winners.
Final Score: Chesterfield Senior Spireites 0 Bramcote Reds 3
Congratulations to Bramcote Reds and also to the Senior Spireites squad who have competed at a high level all season and to be runners up in the Cup competition is no mean achievement - the Club is very proud of you boys!
